Fundraiser:
The Student Council decided to hold a read-a-thon to raise money to raise money. Three 5th grade guests attended the meeting and had suggested we should give money to Global Giving, an organization which gives money to Japan and Haiti following the natural disasters in these countries.
Student Council Officer Elections:
Current 3rd and 4th graders are eligible to run for an officer position for Student Council next year. Officer positions are President (must be a current 4th grader), Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and Historian. The election schedule is:
May 26 - interest meeting after school
June 1 – petitions due: candidates will need 40 students and 3 teachers to sign a petition to run.
June 3 - campaign posters turned in to Ms. Finberg
June 9 - speeches and voting will be held
June 10 - results will be announced
Spirit Week (June 6 – 10)
Student Council members voted on Spirit Week events. Dates and events are:
Monday, June 6 – Maui Monday
Tuesday, June 7 – Twin Tuesday
Wednesday, June 8 – Wacky Wednesday
Thursday, June 9 – Switch day (switch dress styles with someone)
Friday, June 10 – Sports Day

The Student Council members thought of ways to announce the turkey drive. Look out for information on the turkey drive.

Ms. Finberg announced that the school store will be opening in December. Members gave ideas for things to sell at the school store:
- key chains
- stuffed Mustang with Murch T-shirt
- snow globes
- rings
- hats
- card games
Other ideas for Student Council to work on were:
- Have hot lunch dessert
- Write letter to lunch company for better food
- Collect Box Tops for Education as a fundraiser
The next meeting will be held Monday, November 15, 2010, at 3:30 pm.

Ms. Finberg announced that we will sell a new long-sleeved Murch t-shirt at the Fall Fair.
The focus of the meeting was to generate ideas to work on during the year. New ideas were suggested by Student Council members and Finian and Lachlan brought in a list created by Ms. Maravi’s class. The new ideas are:
- Make hot lunch food better
- Focus more on academics such as a read-a-thon
- Warn people about dangerous things and allergies
- Make hot lunch plates recyclable
- Check to make sure drinking water is safe
- Raise more Haiti money
- Control puddles
- Put in water fountain outside
- Raise Money for Pakistan
- Start a book swap
- Put key chains in the school store
- Put silly banz in the school store
Members were told that the meeting minutes are going to be posted on the Murch website (murchschool.org). There is also a list of members on the site.
The next meeting will be held Monday, November 1, 2010 at 3:30pm.

The first Murch Student Council meeting of the year was held on September 13, 2010. Officers and Class Representatives introduced themselves.
Officers stated some of their goals for the year such as improving the school store, continuing the turkey drive, introducing a suggestion box for students’ ideas, reading minutes over the morning announcements, and purchasing more balls for the playground.
The Student Council discussed its upcoming t-shirt booth at the Fall Fair and members were asked to work at the table.
Ms. Finberg announced that the Student Council will host the 3rd annual Lip Sync in the spring.
The next meeting will be held Monday, October 4, 2010 at 3:30pm.
