The boys and girls basketball teams focus on skill-building and learning through competition. Basketball season is November through February, and all games start at 3:30 p.m. Murch plays against neighboring schools such as Horace Mann, Janney, John Eaton, Lafayette, Shepherd, and Whittier. Girls games are played on Tuesdays; boys on Thursdays. Practices are scheduled twice a week. Home games are played at Murch in the multi-purpose room. To try out, girls should contact

In 2010, the Murch Mustang boys basketball team, earned the title of Region B runners up, with 8-2 overall record. As one of two teams representing the region, the Mustangs headed to the DC city championships. The hoopsters competed against the top teams of the District in an eight-game tournament.

Murch Basketball Teams Meet Basketball Great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
The girls & boys basketball teams were invited to participate in Wilson HS's Black History Month celebration. Wilson hosted Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who spoke about the impact of the Harlem Renaissance and its leading figures in sports, music, literature and history. Abdul-Jabbar showed some of a documentary he made entitled, On the Shoulders of Giants : The Story of the Greatest Basketball Team You Never Heard Of.
