For Parents

Murch has strong support from its parents and the neighboring community. Through the Home School Association (HSA), the school raises more than $200,000 every year. This money helps fund a variety of needs and initiatives including classroom and recess aides and instructional resources across the school. Events that bring the community together include school beautification days, the Fall Fair, the spring auction, International Night, musical productions, and many more.

Parents also serve on the Local School Restructuring Team, LSRT. This elected advisory group works closely with Murch teachers and administrators to prepare the school plan, develop the school budget, and design and implement long-term improvements at the school.

Communication Happens in Many Ways

  • Murch Web site: murchschool.org serves as the information hub of our school. Completely redesigned in 2010, the site is the place to bookmark for school news, news, messages from the principal, a calendar of events, volunteer opportunities, classroom dispatches, photo galleries, and background information. We welcome news items, photos, announcements, and ideas from parents, staff, and especially students, whose journalistic efforts are featured on the site.
  • Murch Mustang Express newsletterA digest (emailed via Constant Contact) of the the latest updates to the Murch Web site as well as stories by and about students, reminders, and important links to news you can use.
  • Constant Contact: The e-mail system used by the HSA to communicate with parents.
  • Connect-Ed telephone messagesPrincipal Ellis sends a recorded telephone message out every Thursday evening about current and upcoming events and other important information. This is also the method of communication used in case of emergency.
  • Home and School Association (HSA) meetings: The second Tuesday of the month in the Murch library, starting at 7 p.m.
  • Local School Restructuring Team (LSRT) meetings: Members of the Murch community are welcome to attend monthly meetings of the LSRT, which advises the principal on school matters. Monthly meetings are held the second Monday of the month at 5:30 p.m. in the Media Center.
  • Friday Folders: Sent home every Friday in children’s backpacks with information from the school and the HSA.
  • Buddy Family program: To extend a welcome to new Murch families and help ease their transition into the school, the HSA sponsors a Buddy Family Program. The program pairs each new family with a returning family, to be an early point of contact, answer questions, and generally be a welcoming presence.
