Murch Mondays at Comet Ping PongComet_simple

On the first Monday of every month at Comet Ping Pong, Murch families receive a 10% discount on food and 10% of all purchases are donated to Murch. What better way to give yourself a break, enjoy a fun night out with a little pizza and ping pong, and help our school at the same time? See you there! 5037 Connecticut Avenue NW; 202-364-0404.

Scholastic Book Fair

The fall book fair usually coincides with National Book Festival on the Mall. All books are new and excellent quality. Parents are welcome any time the fair is open, and there is always at least one evening when the event is open especially for parents to do holiday shopping. The Book Fair allows parents to purchase books for their child’s classroom and the school library too. The best part: 25% of the proceeds go to HSA in support of our school. Take a sneak peek at this year’s offerings.

SOS = Support Our School!

October is Support Our School Month at Murch. Your SOS contributions help Murch excel by directly supporting the salaries of full-time classroom aides as well as funding services and vital programs to support our teaching staff. Please take a moment to make your contribution or pledge. Fill out the blue reply form in your SOS packet and return it to us by mail, in your child’s school folder, or by placing it in the Support Our School box located next to the library. All donations are voluntary and tax deductible. If your employer has a charitable matching program, please let us know.  For more information, contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Fall Fair

Held on a Saturday in October, rain or shine, this annual event is a real crowd pleaser. The schoolyard is transformed into an amusement park featuring such attractions as a moon bounce, giant slide, games, entertainment, a flea market, used book sale, cake walk, Halloween costume sale, and lots of munchies. You can help by volunteering an hour of your time for your class’s booth, renting a table at the flea market, or contributing treats for the bake sale and cake walk. Whatever you do, be sure to attend what is THE social event of the season for the 11-and-under set. For more information, contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Murch Directory

Published every fall, the Directory puts your message in the hands of Murch families who use the Directory every day. If you are a business owner, please consider supporting our school and your business by placing an ad in the Murch Directory. Non-commercial commemorative ads are also welcome. You can download and print out the Directory & Auction Catalog Ad Contract.

Bonus: Those who advertise in both the Directory and the Spring Auction catalog receive a discount. For more information, contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Spring Auction

The annual Spring Auction is one of Murch’s biggest fundraisers and a tour-de-force for the community. You can bid on special class creations, travel, fine dining, entertainment packages, gift certificates, books, fine art, and many more wonderful items in both silent and live auctions. This “grown-ups-only” party will take place in early spring at Washington Hebrew Congregation. Watch this page and the Murch Newsletter for more information.
This event depends on an extensive team of parent volunteers to do jobs big and small: serve as category chairpersons, solicit donations, coordinate class art project-gifts, sell ads for the auction catalog, tend bar, collect tickets, decorate the party space, and so on. If you don’t have time to be on the auction committee, there are several ways you can make this event a success:

  • Donate an item: Quality “new-in-the-box” housewares, sports equipment, or toys; a week at your vacation home; tickets to a sports or cultural event; etc.
  • Turn your expertise into a gift certificate for services: Babysitting; cooking; landscaping; knitting; photography; speechwriting; etc.
  • Team up with another parent to offer a dinner party, cake-of-the-month, Saturday bagel delivery, or other special service or event.
  • Ask Murch alums to make a donation and attend the event.
  • Solicit a business that you patronize to make a donation or buy an ad in the auction catalog.
  • Buy a commemorative ad in the catalog in honor of your child or a teacher. This is a great way for special friends and grandparents to support Murch.
  • Become a sponsor (link to sign in) of the auction. If you just want to support the auction without a lot of fuss, please consider making a tax deductible gift.
  • Attend the event (link to rsvp), have fun, and come home with some fabulous items!

Be creative! All donations are tax-deductible. For more information, contact auction chair This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
