Getting to Know Mrs. Marcus

Dutch Treat

erna_marcusI am the wife of a Murch alumnus (1962), mother of 3 Murch alumni (my daughter Lara in 1992, and my twins Eirik and Kristjan, in 1995), and the classroom aide to Mr. Welsh since January 1988.

I was born and raised in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. I hold a B.A. in Chinese Language and Culture from the University of Leiden.  I spent one year studying advanced Chinese at Nanjing University in China, and from there I moved to the USA in 1980.  I spent the first few years taking care of my 3 young children, but when my twin boys entered Pre-K at Murch, the opportunity to work with Tim Welsh presented itself and I have been privileged to have worked with him ever since. I have lived in the Murch neighborhood since 1985, I am an avid amateur photographer, a slow lane swimmer, a slow food cook, a busy blogger in Dutch, an art fiend, an American citizen since December 15, 2009, and I have a hearing disability – neurological hearing loss – for which I wear hearing aids in both ears.  I will gladly show off how these wonderful contraptions work. However, it is not helpful if you speak loudly to me, as harsh noises are amplified by the hearing aids and can harm my inner ear. It is extremely helpful if you speak clearly and I can see your lips when you speak to me.

I am excited to welcome you and your children to our classroom at Murch school! To find out more about Mrs. Marcus, check out her classroom blog.
