Success Breeds Success
In 2010, DCPS granted Murch “autonomous” status. What does this mean? Based on the results of our Autonomous School Review and an outstanding record of high student achievement, DCPS decided that Murch would benefit from increased flexibility and autonomy in decision making in the following areas:
1. Budget: As an autonomous school, Murch will have more flexibility to determine appropriate staffing model and other budget allocations while still adhering to federal compliance requirements. Murch will engage in the school budgeting process through budget round tables for the 2011-2012 school year in January of 2011 where they will be allowed to use funds not associated with federal compliance for whatever use they see fit.
2. Instructional Program: As an autonomous school, Murch will be allowed to engage with a curriculum of their choosing within the confines of their budget allocation.
3. Professional Development: Teachers at an autonomous school will have the option to opt out of Central Office professional development opportunities.
4. Schedule: Schools can set their master schedule as they see fit, within the requirements of the collective bargaining agreement.
5. Textbooks: Schools may order textbooks of their choice during DCPS scheduled adoptions.
